Reviews

Very historic and unique hotel located in the center of San Antonio next to the Alamo and a few minutes walk from the Riverwalk. I enjoyed learning about the history of the property from the display cases in the lobby hall, and drinking in the bar where Teddy Roosevelt recruited his rough riders.

There is also a really nice pool area and restaurant downstairs. Nice bar area with live music too

The room itself needed some attention, particularly the restroom, which could have been cleaner and better maintained. The pillows were very small and uncomfortable, making it difficult to get a good night's rest. We also paid extra for a balcony room with a view, but the balcony overlooked the back of another building, offering little to no scenery. In hindsight, it was not worth the additional cost. That said, the hotel itself is beautiful. The lobby and common areas are very well maintained, and the historic charm of the property is impressive and enjoyable to admire. While we didn't encounter any ghosts, I did have a strange experience while doing my nails alone in the room—the television suddenly turned off by itself. At first, we thought it might have been a sleep timer, but that didn't seem to be the case. One of the hotel's biggest advantages is its location. It is within easy walking distance of the River Walk and many nearby attractions, including the ghost tour we booked directly from the hotel. This version would work well for an online review and comes across as fair and balanced while still pointing out the issues you experienced.

It is disappointing that I have to give a bad review. I’ve stayed before and it was great. However this 4 day stay was horrible! I do have to say the young man at check in was really great! Super friendly and let us check in early. It’s down hill from there. We booked 2 rooms. Both needed a deep cleaning and smelled of water damage. What made it worse, all 4 days the AC in both rooms were broken and wouldn’t cool. It was a damp 76 degrees and the nights were so uncomfortable. I did bring it to their attention the first day and the young lady at the front desk was rude and put off with me mentioning the ac. She immediately said she had no other rooms to dismiss me. I asked if she could provide a fan and she agreed but we never got one. 2 days later we needed toilet paper for both rooms ( both rooms started with half used rolls)and she was reluctant to give it to me. I had to share both room numbers to get it. Again she was very rude and snapped at me when I asked for a roll for each room. We made the best of our time there but I will NEVER stay at the Menger again. They need to train their night shift staff. They need to deep clean the rooms and update. Furniture was dated and damaged. It’s such a shame that a hotel with so much history and beauty is being let go. Shame on management.

It was a very bestay highly recommend we will back

When we were finding our room we noticed a number was gone from one of the rooms , turned out it was our room , walking into the room the room was hot , restroom was hot and muggy due to a leaking faucet with hot water dripping. There was a stain on the bed sheet . And the tv remote was missing . Also the peep hole was falling off the door. I let the front desk know about the issues and he was able to provide me with a fan , and did get us a remote for the tv

This location can’t be beat! Right outside is the Alamo, a mall, restaurants, the Riverwalk, etc. The daily parking fee is expensive but that is the only negative thing about this property. It is well kept, beautiful, clean, and elegant. We even received a free upgrade to the Presidential Suite, which was a mind blowing experience! I highly recommend this hotel and will stay here again in the future.

Nice historical property right next door to the Alamo! It was happening spot. Lots of activity. Enjoyed walking thru the shops, easy access to restaurants, drug stores, etc! Loved the little Taco restaurant in the hotel for my breakfast. Historical means small rooms but it was nice.

The A/C was not working. Regrettably there was nothing they could do about it. So we stuck it out. Probably won’t return there.
-
We were very disappointed in the Hotel, we got to our room and when we opened the door the smell was terrible and looked like mold in the bathroom, air conditioning barely worked. Then we went to go eat at the restaurant only to find out it’s closed for renovations! When I booked the room the website failed to mention this! I understand it’s an older hotel but my experience was not good! I will never stay there again or recommend it to anyone!

excellent location, cant be beat
-
Great location, clean room, beautiful hotel lobby. Easy for solo travel and access to Alamo, the shops, and the Riverwalk.
-
Room was 86 degrees and climbing they gave me a box fan, I left within the hour. Staff was great though. Room was refunded. Just wish it was shown on here to save time on everyone’s part.
-
The AC was not working on my room. I was told that there was noting they could do it was an old hotel. My room key kept resetting and had to go to front desk to redo.
-
We always enjoy staying here. I will say I was disappointed in the lack of their signature room deodorizer. That always makes it feel like home. It’s comforting when traveling.

Historic hotel
-
Our room was great, the bed side table outlet was a little worn and couldn’t hold our chargers in place.
-
Everyone and everything was amazing
-
Ac not working
-
Can’t say about amenities never got a chance to use them. Dialing in water temp was near impossible. A shower was either too hot or cold. And at times it would fluctuate between hot and cold with no adjustments being made.
