Friendly staff in a good location, right by Little Italy and easy walk to Balboa Park. Luggage storage was free, and staff helped us with our bags, very nice. Our private standard room was basic but clean and had an aircon. However it’s not super cheap. For the money for a private room I think there are probably places with more comfortable beds for a few extra $. Sadly the bed had major rolltogether so it was pretty uncomfortable. There was a loo upstairs near the room which was good but the shower upstairs was out of order. No big deal but not a great look. This hostel has moved at the end of 2025. The address on the check in info we were sent hadn’t been updated so it took a bit of extra time to find it. It is very close to the original address, but on Front St. The pics on Booking.com were also out of date in Jan 26. I’m sure these will be updated soon but worth checking.

The staff was overworked and polite. There were only 2 and that seems exhausting for hostel wages compared to the responsibilities. Generally put off by the long term guests the cramped feeling of the shared spaces and the smell of the place. Some guests can live there long-term and they have some personal problems they need to work on from drug abuse to general hostility. The living room is not conducive to socializing. The bedroom I stayed in smelled like socks.

Very good location. Kinda friendly staff. Tolerable for price. Clean bathrooms. The building was pretty old and our door was not strong enough, it was like it can be easily opened with one push. Staff was friendly in attitude however my only request, changing towels, which were not clean, was not considered and any action was not taken. There was a guy smoking something outside so there was a pretty bad smell in the house.

Only half a block from the Little Italy district, and the value is unbelievably.

Location is amazing

Location- near or in Little Italy, many wonderful xadés and restaurants within walking distance and proximity to the Mexican Consulate where I had an appointment. Easy to get to from the airport- bus and walk. The house is well maintained , has lots of unique features in its architecture and takes you back in time. My room was comfortable, clean and safe. It felt very community like, whille allowing for quiet alone time. I liked that there were some planned events everyone was welcome to participate in. The breakfast that was included was well-organized and delicious, with access at all times to use of the fridge and kitche facilities. The shared bathroom was single use and private. The front staff were friendly and helpful. It was very good value for the rates. I can’t think of a thing.

Great staff, fantastic location. Free breakfast. Found a couple cockroaches during our stay, one in the kitchen and one in our room.

Friendly faces, caring hearts, comfort beyond expectation

This was my second hostel I stayed at in San Diego. I didn't like the bunk beds idea and having to share the room with 3 other people (they were all guys). I won't be staying there again. I rather have my own room with my own privacy.

Just needed to crash for 1 night and I arrived at almost midnight. Receptionist was SUPER with high energy. Location turned out to be super close to bayfront/little Italy. The bed was super comfortable, especially after travelling 11 hours. Room was SUPER quiet, no disturbance at all until the morning when traffic started. Now I must be honest and say that this was my forth time staying at a hostel. I would usually book cheap Abnb's and Motels for a 1-nighter prior to Hostels and "sharing" dorms.1.You need to pay an extra 2USD for a towel. 2.If you are not accustomed to having strange types/odd people walking closely around you in a small tight space/room, this is NOT where you want to be. Not to discriminate but I feel that guests need to know and understand what to expect and be aware that there are these situations which MIGHT make you feel uncomfortable. I must sincerely admit though that I never at any momernt felt threatend or unsafe. BUT I must add that this is mainly because Im a world traveller 3.The smell of weed/pot inside was too much although I didn't actually see anybody smoking inside but I dont smoke. 4.The following morning I woke up to the penetrating odor coming from the kitchen just after 7(room door is always open) couldnt sleep any longer. Would NOT REPEAT because of the POT smell and early Kitchen smell. The bed was GREAT.

Location can’t be beat. The room was comfortable and the bed was nice, the burtami provided good privacy and enough darrkness for sleeping. Breakfast in the morning was nice and the wibe was definitely good! The team organizes different events every day of the week, bbq, bar outings, art and drafts etc, it worked out pretty well.

FYI - there is no check-in available after midnight! The phone number in the reservation confirmation message doesn't seem to work. I tried calling twice to ask about late check-ins and there was no reply. No reply through Booking.com messages either. Fortunately, I made it but it was somewhat stressful not knowing what would happen if my flight was further delayed.

I reserved and paid for the room that day and was told that they were going to put my name on the bed I'll call that 2:45 p.m. just to verify make sure everything is good I was told that by Sanji and when I get there then this transgender person so my bad and act like it was no big deal because it was Comic-Con when actually by the hotel standards if I reserved and paid for the room there's no way that should have happened and she was very rude didn't want to help me straighten out the situations she didn't even go out her way to try to help me or do anything to conversate me I had to really lose my head and then some other worker person help me to straighten that situation out so I can get my money back and go somewhere else she would not do that at all if she would have done that then we had a problem she was so busy trying to act like it was nothing and didn't want to help me at all and and that pissed me off and this is why I give it a bad because the customer that reserve the room and pay for the room always come first I have I even been 24 hours I had just reserved the room a couple hours ago and paid for it and she already sold my bed and she still was holding other people's room that haven't even showed up and she didn't sell any room but she sold my room unbelievable she should be fired

The price was good compared to the options in San Diego. The staff all seemed friendly and helpful. You can rent a towel for cheap. Lots of toilets and one large private bathroom.

i liked the breakfast and the co-op-y sort of feel. i also liked the feel of the room, it was just right. i’m going to be honest, i think the health department should step in of the management is not addressing the black mold in the shower rooms. it shouldn’t be that you pay money to stay at a reputable establishment and find toxic black mold everywhere, it for a night or two it’s probably OK … however, the staff is living there, right? so they’re the ones who are most at risk.

It’s a wonderful place
